nike sneakers Christmas Gift Hitting the shelves in its OG form for the first time since 1979, the Nike Daybreak has garnered somewhat of a cult status since its initial release. Earlier this spring, UNDERCOVER designer Jun Takahashi’s futuristic take on the model brought it to the attention of a new generation of trainer collectors; now – 40 years since its initial release – Nike is bringing back the retro-runner in three of its OG makeups.

nike sneakers Christmas 2019 The 1970s is arguably the golden-era of Nike footwear, the decade birthed some of Nike’s most iconic running shoes which still go on to inspire their designs over 40 years later. Similar in design to some of the Oregon-based brand’s other classic styles – namely the LDV and Air Tailwind ’79 – the Daybreak boasts an early revolutionary piece of Nike tech: the Waffle outsole.

nike sneakers Christmas Day UNDERCOVER‘s reimagining of the heritage Nike Daybreak silhouette first released to a receptive audience in early June after being premiered at Paris Fashion Week in 2018, and now it’s set to hit the market in a new “Bright Citron” makeup. Erring towards the colorful side of the spectrum in regards to previous releases, this new Daybreak offers a compelling juxtaposition of a retro yellow nylon upper and a futuristic toothed plastic heel cage that’s dressed in a speckled grey.

nike daybreak undercover black Grey suede overlays and a black midfoot Swoosh/heel offer further contrast, while the heel’s grey pull tab is stamped with a black UNDERCOVER “U” logo. Down below, the midsole is covered fully in speckle print and features text branding on its rear half. The look is then finalized by a classic waffle outsole, a staple of ’70s-early ’80s Nike shoes.
